Teeth Grinding at Night
The unconscious clenching or grinding of teeth, known as teeth grinding, is called «Bruxism» in medical terminology. This involves a malfunction of the jaw muscles and jaw joints or tooth contact. A malfunction of the muscle and jaw joint function can be very painful. From clicking of the jaw joints to the well-known teeth grinding to pain radiating into the neck, shoulders and back, there can be various symptoms. Equally many causes can be responsible for the malfunction.
Through our intensive further training in the field of functional diagnostics and our extensive network of orthodontists, naturopaths and physiotherapists, we enable you to receive the best possible, holistic treatment. Relief for Snoring
Why do people snore at all? Snoring is caused by fluttering and vibrating of muscles and soft tissues in the narrowed throat. Because the muscles relax during sleep, the lower jaw with the tongue falls backwards and narrows the airway. Low tissue tension and excess weight can have a reinforcing effect. That is why snoring problems increase significantly with age. The affected person often does not notice their snoring at all – but suffers from the consequences such as dry mouth, hoarseness and sore throat. However, it is usually the partners who feel more disturbed by the snoring sounds.
Snoring Splint / Protrusion Splint
For snorers, a snoring splint (protrusion splint) can be a very good help in the fight against annoying nighttime noise. A snoring splint puts the lower jaw under slight tension and pulls it forward. This also puts the tongue muscles and tissue in the lower jaw area under slight traction, preventing them from sinking as far back into the throat. The airways remain clear and the snoring noise stops.
Mild snoring has no health consequences. However, to be able to assess this, you should make an appointment with your dentist if needed. Finding the right anti-snoring splint is not easy, as the range of products is large and the layperson often does not know what to look for. We at LifeDent can help you!
